Charity Qurbani Review 2021

What a year! This Qurbani has been so exhausting. Check out this video of when Muslim Vibe visited us before the crazy period started! The challenges of Covid has meant we could not attract as many butchers to help us with the cutting. Many of you will know that Qurbani for us does not end 3 days after Qurbani. We carry on for a further ten days cutting and distributing lamb for charity.

Lamb carcasses can be hung, or matured, in industrial refrigerated chillers for ten days or more. Mot only does this increase the flavour intensity but it also softens the meat internally as enzymes work to break down the muscle structure to deliver a deliciously tender yet flavoursome cut. Crucially it gives us extra time to cut and pack the meat for worthy causes. What we give for charity should be what we would want for ourselves. Here’s a summary of what we’ve done with your kind donations in 2021.

Skin proceeds

Alhumdulillah we collected £960 of skin and by-product proceeds from those that entrusted us with this Amanah. Our estimation is that, if you look at Qurbani performed across the UK, there is about £100,000+ of skin and by-product money UNACCOUNTED FOR! That is a lot of money that should be used to support those in need. Please help us to campaign around this topic so that more needy people can receive financial support during Qurbani.

Alhumdulillah, we are so grateful for this donation from Euro Quality Lambs and their generous Qurbani donors. Skin and by-product donations from the Qurbani animal will go a long way to feeding those in need and we welcome this initiatie to ensure that the Qurbani is fully utilised to benefit the people we servce. We are also extremely proud of our partnership with Euro Quality Lambs and with their gelp have delivered Qurbani to some of the most vulnerable people across the UK. We only wish to give the highest quality meat to those who need it the most, this is why we chose to work wih Euro Quality Lambs

Charitable Thirds

Alhumduillah 624kg of meat was generated in charity meat from EQL donors and a further 450kg was donated by HHUGS that was excess to their needs. These were donated to the following causes.

Syrian Refugees in Shropshire & Regions

Through our masjid, Craven Arms Islamic Centre, and our links with the South Shropshire Interfaith Forum we have come to know many refugee families that have been settled in the surrounding areas. There are 7 families in Shrewsbury, 3 in Oswestry, 6 in Newtown, 4 in Llanydroes Wells and 15 in Telford. Many have settled over a number of years whilst some are new families moving into the area. Some families consisted solely of widows and their children. We distributed on average 10kg per family and their reaction was priceless. 307kg was distributed in total.

Imam Sohayb Peerbhai of CAIC personally distributed the meat around Shrewsbury, Wrexham, Oswestry and Telford. He commented as follows

“Alhumdulillah we had the opportunity to distribute Sadaqa meat locally to many Syrian refugee families this Qurbani. A big jazakullah to EQL and HHUGS donors for their generous donation. May Allah swt accept everyone’s efforts and give them the best of Ajr.”

No pictures were taken to maintain the dignity of those receiving the meat.

Secret Angels Wolverhampton

202kg were given to a new social organisation we supported this year – Secret Angels in Wolverhampton. They have supported food banks and individuals locally and distributed Qurbani meat to Friends of Di’s Kitchen and GSM Wolverhampton.

Masjid Al-Falah

We were already working with Masjid Al-Falah to distribute Qurbani meat on behalf of Islamic Relief. They requested if we have any extra meat from our own donors as they had greater demand than expected. We obliged and distributed 193kg of Qurbani meat to them.

Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre Food Fair

Sisters and children from the Craven Arms Islamic Centre participated in the annual food fair that was held on August 7th. They sell biryani and other delicious cakes and food to raise money for charity. They requested qurbani meat so they could use in biryani and sell for charity. 25kg was provided which raised nearly £1,000 for charity alhumdulillah!

Courier requests

Through the local refugees and well-wishers, we became aware of other refugees and asylum seekers that used to live in the local area but have since moved away. We were requested to send some meat to them via courier which we obliged. 40kg was distributed in 4 insulated courier packs.

Shrewsbury Food Hub

We sent 102kg of vac-packed British cuts to Shrewsbury Food Hub that would then be distributed to local food banks in the area. Pippa received the meat and was very grateful for the support. Her manager Katy commented.

“Thank you so much for your generous donation. It is so appreciated by our partner groups enabling them to get nutritious meals to people at this time of great need. Many, many thanks.”

Hands Together, Ludlow

Di from Hands Together requested English joints to offer lamb roasts for those in need locally. 34kg was supplied.

Qurbani 2022

We are very grateful for everyone’s support and insha’Allah we look forward to generating even more charitable meat next year to give thanks and spread the baraka and blessings of fresh Qurbani meat to those in need. Please support us in our collective endeavours.

May Allah swt accept your Qurbani and sincere intentions. A final Eid Mubarak from all of us 🙂
